Introduction
Human Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry
The research in the Department of Human Molecular Genetics and Biochemistry is focused on deciphering the molecular, genetic and biochemical basis of disease, towards providing treatments and cures to alleviate human suffering. The Department provides courses and training in genetics, molecular biology, and biochemistry to medical, dental, and paramedical students, graduate students pursuing M.Sc. and Ph.D. programs, and joint M.D.-Ph.D. students.
Several faculty members practice medicine and perform their research in affiliated area hospitals, including the Chaim Sheba Medical Center, Tel-Aviv Sourasky Medical Center, and the Rabin Medical Center. Affiliated members also include research associates who perform their research in area hospitals. Graduate students in the Department carry out their research projects both on the 7th and 10th floor of the Sackler Building (at the Ramat Aviv campus) and affiliated hospitals.
An important component of the Department is its involvement in educating the public regarding advances in genetic and biochemical research and providing short-term training for high-school students, as well as basic research training for physicians as part of their internships.
