Introduction
The ophthalmology section is responsible for the teaching of eye related issues for medical students, residents and board certified specialists in ophthalmology.
1. A pre-clinical course in general ophthalmology is available at the internet site of Sackler school of Medicine. This site is open for medical students and contains background material that should be studied before starting and during clerkship in Ophthalmology.
2. All the medical students belonging to Sackler School of Medicine, at the 5th academic year, undertake a clerkship in an ophthalmology department for one week, in one of the five departments of the hospitals affiliated to Tel-Aviv University.
3. Medical students belonging to Sackler School of Medicine, at the 6th academic year, may choose to undertake an elective clerkship in an ophthalmology department for two to six weeks, in one of the five departments of the hospitals affiliated to Tel-Aviv University.
4. The ophthalmology section is responsible for post-graduate teaching at The Post-Graduate School of Medicine. The course is oriented to teach residents in ophthalmology and update the board certified doctors. The course is located at Sackler School of Medicine, every Tuesday during the academic year, from 18.00 to 21.00 p.m.
5. Elective program for the New York State students of the Sackler Medical School and for foreign medical students is given by the departments affiliated to the Faculty of Medicine. The period of elective can be from two weeks to four weeks.
6. During the academic year, all the eye departments from the central area of Israel (from Ashkelon to Kfar Saba) have a monthly clinical meeting. Each one of the departments presents a problematic case that is discussed by the forum. This meeting is opened to all eye doctors that are interested to hear new ways of diagnosis and treatment of common or rare cases in ophthalmology. The departments that participate in these meetings are: Tel Aviv Medical Center, Sheba Medical Center, Assaf Harofe Medical Center, Wolfson Medical Center, Meir Medical Center, Beilinson Medical Center, Kaplan Medical Center, Barzilai Medical Center and Maccabi Health Fund.
